what we treat

At Belfast Lifestyle Medicine we are fully qualified, experienced GPs. We use our traditional medical training alongside our experience in lifestyle medicine – each complements the other.

In trying to identify the root cause of your illness, we want to know about every symptom or problem that is affecting you. We look at your health history from childhood to the present day, assembling a ‘timeline’ of events. We gather any previous investigations you may have had carried out elsewhere, and consider further testing where necessary.

We then construct a detailed individual management plan. Crucially, we review things regularly with email conversations, tweaking the plan as needed. We will typically review your progress at a follow up appointment after 2–3 months, when we will establish the next steps.

At Belfast Lifestyle Medicine we aim to get to the root causes of many conditions such as:

  • Diabetes / Pre-diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Psoriasis
  • IBS
  • Cholesterol
  • Reflux
  • Obesity
  • PCOS
  • Thyroid problems
  • Fatty liver disease
  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Mood disorders
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Have you been struggling to get to the bottom of your symptoms? Are you feeling below par? Maybe you have been given a medical diagnosis and want to understand why this has developed rather than mask the symptoms with medications? You may not have spoken to a health professional about how you feel, but have instead become used to a ‘new normal’ over the years. We can help manage a range of symptoms such as fatigue, indigestion, constipation, diarrhoea, heartburn, headaches, joint pains, rashes, weight changes, sleep disturbances and mood changes.

    What to expect:

Once we have received your enquiry, we will contact you to arrange a short telephone consultation to determine how best we can help.

We will then email you password-protected health questionnaires which aim to capture more about you and your symptoms.

Your initial appointment will be a one-hour video or telephone consultation with the doctor. The doctor will discuss and arrange any additional investigations that may be required. We work with you to decide on the best bespoke management plan. This is likely to include dietary, exercise, stress and sleep interventions.

We will then email you a summary of your lifestyle prescription and management plan. We will offer fortnightly email conversations to monitor your progress. At your follow-up appointment, we will review your progress and any investigation results. We will also discuss in more detail your longer-term management plan.
